No line

Some time back I bought an ink pad designed for 'no line watercolouring' from a company called Ink On 3.   I had several attempts with it and quite frankly was not impressed with the results - I just put the pad away in a drawer and forgot about it.
I found the pad again when looking for something else and having become a tiny bit more confident with my watercolouring (still learning and lots of practice re shading etc needed) - I decided to have another go.

The stamp is called 'Sketchy Flower' from Honey Doo.
My watercolour card is not white which is quite irritating - I have yet to find one that is both white and heavyweight without having to rob a bank.

It's been a little while since I have managed to join in at 'The Flower Challenge' but am linking up there for their 'Shades of Purple' challenge this month.
Am also linking to TIOT's 'Say It With Flowers' challenge.

I'd be interested to hear anyone else's thoughts on the ink - and the best way to get good results.

Overall I feel this isn't too bad, although am still not sure about the ink - maybe Antique Linen DI probably works just as well?

Thanks for visiting today. x

Gorgeous card Viv! I LOVE your flower and your amazing no-line watercolouring. I have that same ink pad and have only used it a couple of times. I find that when I add watercolour over top, the lines take on that colour, which is not a bad thing. I think I need more practise with this new medium. Thanks for joining us at The Flower Challenge. xx

I am no expert Viv...Lol .... but I use Antique Linen DI, as this doesn't leave a line, although it has taken me ages to learn how 'not' to leave a line!
Your card is so pretty Viv, with gentle shades of purple and so very beautiful and all finished off with the fabulous splats x.

A beautiful card Viv and you’ve definitely achieved a water colour look to your flower. I don’t have any special ink pads for this technique, so I just use Distress Desert Sand as it’s quite pale and most colours will go over it without much problem. Keep up the good work xx

You've achieved a lovely delicate effect here. I didn't know there was a special inkpad for this no line technique and I would think that something very light like Antique Linen or a very pale grey would do just as well although I've not tried it myself. Really white watercolour paper of a good weight does seem to be virtually impossible to source so I just 'go with the flow' and use a light cream card base if the white ones look too stark.

I didn't know there was a special ink pad for the no-line technique . . . but you learn something new every day! Looks great to me mate. I'd be pleased if I'd been able to make that card.

Very nicely done. Love the delicate shades that water colors provide. The effect is as though the image was hand drawn. Very nice.

A beautiful card Viv, the flower is stunning.
I've not used that particular ink pad, but I have tried Antiqued Linen a couple of times.

I don’t know the ink and I’m not confident about my coloring skills, so the no coloring technique isn’t for me, however I do admire your results. I think it gives a CAS design an even more clean feel. It’s beautiful.

I think this is so soft and pretty and the ink pad has given you a soft greyish outline which works well Viv and you have some beautiful shading too, so don't be so hard on yourself. If you want a good white colour for watercolouring I have found the best is Bristol Smooth and it is a good weight of paper too. I got my pad from The Range a while ago and I think they still do it. I have been trying to find some watercolour paper which will work through the printer for digital images and have just bought a Canson mixed media pad, but like you am irritated that it is not a good bright white and was hoping that it would be thinner that the Bristol smooth to go through the printer as it was a 200gsm and the other is 250 but have yet to try it through the printer. Buying any paper and card is a complete minefield and trying to be eco friendly I hate wasting it. x
