Peaceful Princess

It has been a while since I entered something into a challenge and I've just been having a quick look through my favourite sites to see what everyone has been up to. At One Powerful Hour the theme was Dolls.

I made this doll for a swap over at Monthly Art Dolls on Flickr, so all of my Flickr group friends will have seen her before.

She is a 'no sew' doll which suited me as I am not very good with needles and thread!!

She is made from a wooden batten and fibrefill. Her body is wrapped in some red and gold shimmery silk fabric and tied with gold threads. Her face and hand are made from clay and painted.

I have called her Shanti, which means 'Peace' and she is now winging her way to her new home with Malissa in America.

My friend June who hosts the 'So Artful' challenge blog has set the theme of 'Sleeping Beauty' for this week, so as Shanti looks like she is in blissful repose, I have also added this to June's challenge too.

Bunny Bond

Once again my friends at MAD Mamma (Monthly Art Doll) will have seen this but I realised I hadn't posted it on my blog and it fits the challenge from theme of 'Playful Dolls' from Mixed Media Monday this week.

Bunny Bond was made from a paper template and given a black felt jacket complete with tiny bow tie and a row of gold 'buttons'. His face was coloured with watercolours and his shoes done in acrylic paint to make them look like shiny patent leather! The bottom part of his body was cut from black pearlised card

As Bunny is a super spy, he comes with his own gun and an accompanying 'Licence to Kill' ATC!

I know I know... MAD Mamma group is aptly named....

Spring???

Margaret decided we needed something else to occupy us other than the weekly Monday challenge so she set up a group called MAD Mamma on Flickr..........it stands for Monthly Art Dolls although it does actually describe the participants very well!

This month's theme was Spring.

So please say hello to Flora or Marigold or Daffodil or Daisy....... can't quite decided on a name for her yet! As the weather at the moment is nothing like Spring poor Flora/Marigold/Daffodil/Daisy may have to wait a while longer to take her seed packets from her waistband and use her fork and watering can to plant them !

She's 6" tall and made from a template. After cutting out the body parts I stamped small leaves all over her and made her a 'skirt' from fabric flower petals and added a further yellow flower . Her hat is two fabric leaves and the two ladybugs are tiny wooden embellishments. I put a sparkly fabric flower on each of her feet and gave her a cardboard watering can and fork. Her joints are all connected by brads.

As everyone works off the same template it's amazing how different everyone's interpretation of the theme is... I never thought I'd get into making paper dolls, but have loved doing this!

Cut up Body Parts!

Things here have finally calmed down a little so to all my blogging friends a belated Happy New Year to you and yours.

I have spent a couple of hours each day for the last couple of days trying to rise to the latest challenge set by Margaret. In another moment of lunacy she decided to start another MAMMA group, this one is aptly entitled MAD MAMMA and although you may think the title reflects me very well it actually stands for Monthly Art Dolls!

This is the first time I have tried to make one of these dolls and it's from a template by Mirkwood. The rubbish bin alongside me has been full of body parts as I have struggled beyond belief to make something that even remotely resembled a doll!

I used gold embossing powder on her arms and legs and some corrugated gold card for her torso. I coloured her face with a gold Sakura pen and then added the glitter thread to make her hair. My original idea was to give her a gold hand gun and call her 'girl with the golden gun ' (my apologies to James Bond fans) but ditched the idea when I found the large gold wire heart in my scraps box. So she is just now the 'Golden Girl with 2 hearts'! I am not sure if I shall leave her in for the swap as I think the back is a bit of a mess but those who have seen her so far think she is OK - I have another template cut out and another idea buzzing round in my head - suppose I'd better empty the bin before I start!
