It's been forever since I have found time to sit and do anything creative. Today I had a free day and oh what joy when I saw the weather! Cold and wet means I can sit here and fiddle about to my heart's content without feeling guilty cos I'm not tidying the garden!!

It's also been forever since I have made anything for a challenge and this one finishes tomorrow!!

The challenge set by the 'Tag You're It' team was 'A Whiter Shade of Pale'. I have been cursing them ever since I read the blog 'cos the darn song keeps whizzing about in my head! (Which now has well aged me cos I just checked and it was 1967 when it was released!!!!)

So here's my effort complete with a quote from Procul Harums classic song.

'She said, 'There is no reason and the truth is plain to see.

But I wandered through my playing cards and would not let her be

and although my eyes were open they might have just as well've been closed'

The beautiful face image is printed onto fabric paper and edged with white organza fabric and the quote is printed onto vellum and attached with white eyelets onto the 'paisley' embossed paper background. Some fibres, pearls and a sparkly flower to finish and unfortunately my photography today is not the best so please if you want a better look enlarge the pic!

The lovely weather this week has meant I have been outside in the garden during the day. I went along to the bowls club on Wednesday for the first time this season to indulge in some much needed practice before the season starts in the middle of next month! Consequently I haven't done much crafting, although I have thought about the layout for the ruler book and am hoping to make a start on that this weekend.

Having not managed to do last week's challenge on 'Tag You're It', this morning I made an effort to do this week's!

There was an open theme but you had to include 3 elements - a ribbon, buttons, and brads or eyelets.

Here is my tag! I crumpled up some green tissue paper then ran 'Shabby Shutters' distress ink over it. The little lion and the monkey's head are buttons and the lizard background is from Hot Off the Press. I put a small green brad to secure the lizard paper onto the main tag. I used black eyelets to thread the ribbon through at the top. I finally added some small chipboard scrabble like tiles for the greeting.

Last week I did my entry for the Tag You're It challenge early - I loaded it onto my blog on Saturday but then the following Thursday realised that I hadn't linked it on the challenge site! What a fool! I just managed to post it before the new theme was put up!

This week's challenge is 'Wings'.

I like this pic of the 'Butterfly Lady' - she has a dress and hat made of butterfly wings as well as sporting a fine pair of wings herself!

I used several different shades of purple and pink inks for the spritzed and sponged background after stamping the flower head images and text in dark blue and then put Butterfly Lady onto the tag with some 3d pads.

A Girl's Best Friend

Tag You're It this week came up with the theme 'Diamonds are a Girl's Best Friend'.

So here is my tag!

Valentine's Day

Not surpisingly all the challenge sites this week have themes which relate to Valentines Day.

Tag You're It was no exception! Their theme was entitled 'Love and Romance'. As today is also husband's birthday it would have been nice to have made a tag that I could have attached to his birthday present - but in typical 'husband' fashion he has been using his present ( a new PC keyboard specifically for on line gaming) for the last week!!!

But HAD I been able to prise it from his mitts and wrap it, I would have used this tag!

I promised myself that I would keep clear of the usual reds/pinks but then had to spoil my resolution by photgraphing the tag on some heart paper!

Inspired by Oriental

I know red and black is much over used when it comes to things Oriental, and much as I like the greens, blues and golds also associated with it, the red/black combo I am still drawn towards, mainly because I think they're striking together.

We were given a sketch this week as a background template on 'Tag You're It' and here is my tag.

The oriental images are printed on a transparency and mounted onto white card hence the pic isn't as sharp as in real life!

(By the way, one of my bloggin 'sisters', Kristen has a draw going on for some Basic Grey papers and other must-have stuff. Draw will be done on Valentine's Day, so why don't you pay her fab blog a visit!)

The Colour Purple!

This tag is for this week's challenge of 'Purple' on 'Tag You're It!'.

I like this background paper as I think it is really versatile and have it in a number of colours! So I covered my tag shape with the purple shade and then stamped the 2 dragonflies onto plain white cardstock.

I then sponged the white cardstock with ink pad colour ' Purple Rio' and used Mica shimmer powder 'Violet Frost' to paint the wings. The same shimmer powder was used to edge the flower petals.

I decided to attach the top dragonfly with 3d foam pads to give it a raised effect and finally I added some pale purple ribbon.

I fear I am becoming hooked on making tags!!

What time is it?

When I was small I was told you could tell what time it was by blowing the 'fluffy bits' on a dandelion after it has finished flowering and counting how many times it took you to get rid of all the seeds. I can't remember whether it was an accurate way to tell the time or not but I do remember doing it! Now I curse the wind and small children who blow the seeds as I am convinced they have an in built homing device which leads them to my garden where dandelions flourish in abundance!

The 'Tag You're It' theme this week was Numbers.

I used three different colours of Distress Inks for this tag. I sponged the background with 'Scattered Straw' and stamped the numbers with ' Shabby Shutters'. I used 'Peeled Paint' for definition to the edges.

The dandelion head was embossed in 'Seafoam White' and I finished by rubbing some of the distress ink over the fabric flower.

I have been able to have a crafting day today as I am still bothered with a nasty cough so I needed to stay indoors.(My excuse anyway!) One of the good things about having lots of time is you can trawl through all the challenge sites and then work your way through them!

Tag You're It! had posted a challenge yesterday called 'Sugar Candy Kisses', so this morning I sat and made this little tag which I thought would be suitable for a new baby. (One of the things I think about tags is they can also be made into a greeting card with a little bit of imaginiation so this one may well end up on a card at some time in the future if I can find a suitable background!)

Anne (one of my 'Blogging Stamper' sisters) had sent me these brilliant images of fairies on top of their own cakes last year and this was the last one- it seemed perfect for the challenge.

After mounting the fairy and her cake on top of some thick card, I used foam pads to raise her up from the actual tag and a pink patchwork button instead of an eyelet to secure the ribbon. Some glitter glue applied to accentuate her wings, a tiny paper heart in the bottom left hand corner and a couple of buttons 'holding' on the greeting of 'Hello Cupcake' and my tag was done!

O Christmas Tree

Halloween not yet here and the shops are already full of Christmas stuff! Quite depressing really, it seems to me all the magic of Christmas I experienced as a young girl has disappeared completely. I remember well the excitement of seeing the first Christmas tree in the front window of a house or the tree and Nativity scene that was placed outside the local church mid December...now the decorations are up at the end of October, making the christmas 'season' almost as long as the four natural ones!

Anyway, without wishing to become like 'Scrooge' altogether I decided to take part in this weeks challenge on Tag You're It - Christmas Tree!

This tag is a scaled down version of a hand made Christmas Card. I sponged the white card with 'fir tree' colour ink and drew the 'tree' in gold pen. Overlaid a piece of vellum that had been edge embossed with 'seafoam white' and added gems for sparkle on the branches of the drawn tree. A piece of green organza ribbon and a red corrugated card tub finished the tag.
