Having been determined to stop dithering about and to be inspired by
some of the gorgeous makes that pop up from the Lavinia Design Team, I
have done several pieces which are now in frames.
A couple of my friends have granddaughters who are mermaid mad so there are 3 makes spoken for and finding their way into Christmas stockings this year - this is one and I will share the others at a later date.
This measures 11" x 9" in it's frame (which is white wood with a white mount) and to be honest I am really chuffed with myself for stepping away from the normal sized card fronts and having a go at something a bit bigger.
I have also become a stalker! I watch every tutorial from the very talented Mona Hauge who makes the most amazing scenes and is very generous in sharing her tips and techniques.
She has given me confidence to try things I wouldn't have thought I was good enough to do and I have been really delighted with the results.
For the first time I have begun to use coloured pencils to add definition and shading instead of trying to use an ink brush and I am fast running out of white pens for highlighting!
Yes, there have been mistakes, disasters and downright frustration but it has been wonderful expanding my horizons a little bit!
I am still though very nervous of trying alcohol ink backgrounds
for stamping scenes (only cos the Yupo paper is so expensive) and I confess to having a
Gelli plate and have never used it - but that's the next on the list! (And yes I know I've been saying that for EVER but I will get round to it!)
Thanks for looking today - I know blogging seems to be way down the list now with social media taking centre stage but I really appreciate all those of you who continue to follow my blog and leave comments.
Have a lovely day whatever you're doing. x

A Commission!
Over the last couple of years I have rarely made any commissioned cards due to lack of time but a few months ago a close friend asked me to make her a baby card.
Her daughter had given up all hope of ever becoming a Mum so it was much excitement and trepidation all round when they got the news that she was expecting - not least because in the normal course of things she was considered 'past the age' !!!
(In her 40's! -positively ancient 😲😲!!)
Baby Zach entered the world yesterday so I now can share the card.
I opted for a relatively simple card using an old image from Sugar Nellie - I have had this for a long time and it is one of my favourites - not least because I am pretty useless at shading and this stamp already has it.
Pearlised card used for it all - the embossed background was a piece I had cut out at some time and never used so I just tidied up the edges.
The oval (another odd piece of card!) is of course a Spellbinders die, and I inked the edges in Tumbled Glass DI.
Baby was coloured with Promarkers
The sentiment and the corners also inked were cut from some snippets of pearlised card.
The lace, ribbon and heart charm all from my stash.
Oh and here's Zach!

Popping over to the Playground to see what everyone has been up to.

Finally!
Followers of my blog will know that a couple of weeks ago I was asked if I could make a Wedding card. Well who doesn't like a wedding???? The answer is ME. Because as soon as I said 'Of Course I can', I was given a list of very specific instructions as to what I had to include!!
I started the card without much enthusiasm I confess. As I tried to work out how to incorporate everything my already low enthusiasm diminished even more.
But my Mum always said that you should never give up - so I didn't and think now I have presented something reasonably passable.
Instructions - 1. " One of your 'stand-up' cards (hope she meant Easel LOL), 2. Te couple are in their 50's so no 'young brides or grooms' (???), 3. He likes trains 4. She's a musician 5. Please add their names too
SIMPLES......................................................... not.
So here's the finished article. A front view and a stand up view
I used the brick embossing folder on the bottom to try and make it look like the couple were dancing towards the vintage train - they are raised up from the card so it does have a perspective effect in real life. I think the bride's head-dress has a vintage 20's feel to it so hopefully that counts as 'not young'!!
The clouds folder was a mag freebie and I rubbed some pale blue pastel chalk to give the sky a bit of colour.
I put the same grey shiny (not mirri) card behind the die cut train (the left over from the matting piece used) and punched out a few musical notes for steam.
The 'Just Married' sign was PC generated and hung with some embroidery thread. The card is in fact bright white so I mustn't be very good at pic taking as it looks quite dull here!
Used the same musical notes punch for the base and added another sign with the couple's names secured with a silver heart brad.
Heaved a sigh of relief when this was finished - can only hope the person who ordered it thinks it is OK!

Returned!
Arrived back after a brilliant couple of weeks on the Bowls England President's tour in Cyprus (my turn next year to sort one of these out heaven help me!). 85 people - bowls, drink, food and laughs.. oh and some sun too!
This was a commissioned card and was one of several golden wedding cards ordered by the same person for several of her friends who were all celebrating anniversaries in the same year! Consequently I had to resort to using a layout I have used before and inspired by Debby many moons ago!
The banners were all embossed and die cut from oddments of cream linen card. The stamp is from the Stempelglede Vintage Garden set and I like it a lot.
I cut out the butterfly then simply swept it across the ink pad and gold embossed - I didn't want a thick solid effect and I was happy with the way this turned out.
I hand made the rolled roses using a die (think it is a Marianne one but don't quote me!), punched out a couple of leaves and a gold mirri card die cut flourish. I added a pearl and gold wire stem for more blingy and the sentiment is from LOTV.
The pic background has a bit of a bluish tinge to it - should be white so obviously I had the camera on the wrong setting! Card has gone now so can't re-take it!
Using up the snippets means I can pop into the Playground this week - won't be able to hang about long as the washing machine has been on overdrive since we got home and I need to make a start on the dreaded ironing!
I will catch up with you all over the next few days and hope all is OK with you all in blogland!

Golden
Here is our first Stamping Sensations challenge of 2016 and it's 'Stamps and Dies' and our sponsors are Tonic who have offered a fab prize of their new colours of Nuvo Crystal Drops and matching glitters!
This was a commissioned card and thankfully the recipients celebration was before this challenge was due to go live so they will have seen it in real life.
In the last couple of months of 2015 I struggled really to come up with anything what I considered to be inspiring. I think having the busy summer left it's toll a little bit - someone said 'only another 3 years to go'... am hoping though that now I know what to expect having almost completed my first year I will be able to relax a bit more when I am not travelling away.
Anyway back to the card -
As we are a stamping challenge there HAS to be stamping as the focal point. My focal point is of course the huge vase holding the flowers! Trust me this IS a big stamp - and years old so have no idea where or when I bought it! I stamped then gold embossed with Tinsel Gold EP which really sparkles (!) before cutting it out.
Before putting the EP away I ran an embossing pen round the edge of the layered card and gold embossed.
The flowers are cut from gold matt card and gold mirri card. I don't really like mirri card very much - I think it is really east to overdo its use but think it looks OK used sparingly, so just one flower stem whereas two stems from the matt card.
The metal heart is another old buy found in my stash and just used some thin gold wire to pop it into the vase.
The butterfly is a one of a set of 3 dies and I stuck some gold and pearl tiny beads onto the body.
Sentiment was computer generated.
I made a box with a gold lid out of a sheet of mirri card - got to use it up somehow!! Used up quite a few odd bits on the main card too so am away to get my hat and coat on and wellies and splash about in the Playground!
AREN'T THESE FAB?!!

I am missing days.....
Where has this week gone???? Can't believe it's so long since I last posted.
Unusually for me, I was asked to make a card similar to one made some time ago - normally I don't do two of anything but as I liked the stamp (!!) and because of the special circumstances I said 'yes'! It is for the same recipient and the last card (although kept tucked away in a drawer) is rather the worse for wear so this duplicate will be put into a box frame and hung on a wall as a piece of artwork.

I love this stamp! It reminds me so much of happy days spent collecting shells on the beach with my Mum. Hence the sentiment.
I coloured it with Distress Inks then stitched it onto a scallop frame.
The papers were just found in my paper collection download box and the colour reminded me of sand.
Added some striped ribbon and a Martha Stewart shell type border and a printed vintage style postcard before using some scrunched up fabric, a pearl buckle and a variety of seashells.
The little tags were found in a drawer and I put a tiny silver metal flip flop charm to finish.

Lows and Highs
What a week! Some desperate news over a 48 hour period last weekend, one not unexpected but the other a huge terrible shock and then on Tuesday morning whilst standing on a very cold and windy Railway Station I received a phone call with some amazing news which has now thrown me (and likely the other half) into a wonderful adventure over the next few years!
I don't want to bore you with all the details but I have been elected as Junior Vice President of Bowls England - so the succession means JVP in 2015, Senior VP in 2016, culminating in the Presidency in 2017. I am honoured, excited and maybe a little scared(!!) at the enormity of it all.
(The press release can be viewed a little way down the page here - https://www.bowlsengland.com/news/page/1/presidential-and-selector-election-results or here a little way down the page on the Clubs facebook page https://www.facebook.com/pages/Bolton-Flat-Green-Bowling-Club/504991522857091)
Anyway that's enough of all that - after all the excitement of the Club of the Year win and now the President thing I need some time out and I am going to spend today making messy - I have promised myself!
About the card - a commission for a young lady's 3rd Birthday.
Image from All Dressed Up, coloured with promarkers and fussy cut. A wee bit of Frosted Lace stickles on the cake top.
Sentiment computer generated then cut with nesties, papers, lace, ribbon and pearls all from my stash.
Challenges -
In the Pink - KISS with lots of Pink
Crafting for all seasons - Birthdays
Creative Moments - Anything Goes - Celebrate
Fab n Funky - Birthday
Cuttlebug Mania - Girlie
Passion for Promarkers - Lace
Fantastic Tuesday - Anything Goes with ribbon
Am away to blogland now for a catch up, thanks for coming to see me today. have a great day whatever you're doing. x

Been getting on a bit with the commissioned cards the last couple of days although I think that today I might have to do something else as I am beginning to get irritated with Christmas!
This is another one of Mo's images I have had for a long time but rarely coloured. Opted for a pink and blue theme as something a little bit different from the normal red and greens.
The papers are from my stash and I added a little bit of spiders webby sparkly fabric stuff (no idea what it's real name is....) on top of the base layer before layering up everything else.
The stamp was coloured with promarkers.
Some blingy in the form of dies cut from sparkly paper and a few dabs of Stickles.
Another one off the ordered list!
Challenges -
Milk Coffee - Hand Coloured Image
Delightful Challenges - Patterned paper
Bearly Mine - Christmas Cards
C.R.A.F.T - Winter
I love Promarkers - Cute Christmas
Papertake Weekly - A/goes with sparkle/glitter
Am sat here listening to the rain lashing down - perfect excuse not to venture away from the craft room - (as if I even needed an excuse! LOL).
Thanks for visiting - have a lovely day whatever you're doing. x

Feed the Birds
Had a very exciting couple of days - more of that later at the end of the post.
In between all the madness I relaxed a little by carrying on with my commissioned cards. Here's another one done and on the stack which is half way finished.
I have had the image called 'Ragged Urchin' for a while but this is the first time I have coloured it.
I don't know why either- even though I can't pick a fave from the talented pen of Mo Manning this one does rate somewhere near the top of the list - there she is all muffled up against the cold, with patches and darns on her pinafore but she has managed to find enough pennies to feed a little bird to protect him from the winter - Love it!
I coloured her with promarkers.
Keeping embellishments to a minimum once again but couldn't resist the pearls!
The berry trim was in the fabric box and I estimate it's about 8 years old but I think it goes quite well with the papers and image.
The sentiment die was bought last Christmas and used for the first time for this Christmas....and the big green brad is another oldie!
So
shall now tell you about the rather pleasant shock I got yesterday -
received a phone call to tell me that my club had won the Bowls England
Club of the Year................ OMG!!! How good is that!
If
you're really interested the press release is here

Soon be Christmas!
Have been at 3 County Presentation lunches in the last 6 days - all in the North of England, - Cumbria, Yorkshire and Northumberland -nice food, nice wine and nice company!! My waistline however is not so nice!! So 'eat as little as possible' this weekend - despite it being my own Club presentation tomorrow.
I relaxed on Wednesday by making a start on the dreaded Christmas cards. Have a commission for a few as well as my own to do so here's the first commissioned one finished - The little cutie is of course by Mo Manning and I think she is amongst my faves!
I coloured her with promarkers in a soft pastel green and highlighted her wings, leg warmers and bobbles with a touch of pale blue grey and some glamour dust.
The background was done using a mix of blue and yellow chalks.
Cut out with a nestie, edges distressed and stickled then mounted onto the background - paper I think from Wild Rose Studio. Just distreesed the edge and again - out with the Stickles!
All the snowflakes are from the same Memory Box die just cut up using scraps of white sparkle paper (which doesn't show up very well here but it is really sparkly in real life!)!
The sentiment was a freebie from a magazine, added some bright white ribbon and a couple of crystal gems.
Not heavily embellished really or too thick - so it will be OK in the post!
Challenges -

Crafty Little Fairies - 1 Designer Paper
Inspiration Destination - Anything Goes
Christmas @ Sweet Stampin - Snowflakes
Crafting By Designs - Get Ready for Christmas

Am off now to remove the trophies from the cabinet at the Club and get stuck in with the silver polish so all the winners tomorrow will be able to see their faces reflected!!! Have a great day whatever you're doing. x

Champagne!
Did you all think I'd left the country??? Well you're right, I Have!!! 3 whole weeks to be exact - currently sunning myself and chilling out with the odd glass or two of wine in 30 degrees of heat!
Typed this post up before I left and have just added challenges and stuff to it now I have a good internet connection - a commissioned card to share made for an anniversary for a friend's relative.
Still using up the paper stash and I am now soooo proud of myself that it has been almost 6 months since I bought a paper pad!!! Am still in danger of being buried under the paper mountain in the craft room and don't seem to have made any difference to the pile even though I have been trying to use it!
This card used a sheet of paper from the 'Exquisite' Pad by Papermania. This I think is only the second sheet I have used from this old pad!
Distressed the edges and then ran some Antique Linen DI round.
I used a paper doily and tucked some scripted vellum behind, then wrapped a piece of white organza ribbon round the card, layered some maroon satin ribbon on top and added a scrap of ric rac braid.
Next layer was a piece from Prima 'Fairy Rhymes' pad before topping off with the drunken mice!
I put some Stickles round the edge of the image and also on the champagne bubbles.
Finished with some pearls, a few flowers from my stash and a silver champagne glass charm.
Inside decorated to match.
Challenges -
Crafty Little Fairies - Sparkle & Bling
Card Mania - Doily
Sisterhood Snarky Stampers - D for distressing
Sweet Pea - Creatures Great and Small
Wags n Whiskers - Furry Friends
Alphabet - P for Pretty Petals
ABC - Flowers/Sentiment/Doily
Thanks for looking - apologies from me if I don't get round to visiting you all for the next couple of weeks - promise to play catch up again when I get back to England! x

Age is just a Number!
I hope everyone enjoyed the recent festive days and thanks to everyone who sent me messages, cards and prezzies!!!
We had a lovely quiet couple of days in our first Christmas in our new house and am keeping my fingers crossed that the current hailstorm will turn to snow 'cos I can't wait to see the hills and valley at the back all white!! (Yes I am definitely crazy wishing to be snowed in I know!)

My share for today is a commissioned card for a 70th Birthday.
The recipient is someone who can only be described as 'a party gal' and I was asked to reflect that in the card. The lady in question certainly knows how to have a good time and is the life and soul of any celebration and I hope I have captured her personality as asked.
I opted to use a centre step scalloped edge card as a bit of a change from my recent squares and rectangles.
The background is embossed although it doesn't show up very well (light here is not good - aforesaid hailstorm!!), and I matted it onto some red card.
The image is of course from Mo Manning and called 'Veronica' - she makes me smile! I coloured her with a mix of promarkers and distress inks and decoupaged her onto a fancy oval frame.
I added a few tiny sparklies for a bit of bling and some spotty ribbon and a pearl buckle.
The 'pink martini' was a download, coloured then some stickles added for bubbly bits, and the numbers were also a download.
I finished with a few punched out stars and a sentiment from TLC which I cut out with a fancy tag die and I think is absolutely PERFECT to describe the 'party gal'!!!!!
Mo's DP2 has a challenge called 'Your favourite Mo card of 2013' - I have made many this year and can't choose really - so have opted to link the latest one!

Have a great day. x

Sufficient Sparkle!
I have been getting on with the commissioned cards - only a couple left to do then I can concentrate on getting back to my own Christmas ones as well as my DT's!
This is part of the order - no instructions other than a 'girly' card!
I bought this image from Mo's last year and this is the first time I have coloured her.
I am so pleased with the final result of this - although as ever the light here isn't very good so hope you can imagine what it's like IRL!
Bright white linen textured card ran through the 'Swiss Dots' folder, then a circular aperture cut out.
I coloured the image with Distress Inks, then got out all the sparkly stuff!!!
And before you ask, yes I DO have some left! But she seemed to be crying out to be 'sparkled' to within an inch of her life.................so I put it EVERYWHERE - on the background of the image, on her socks, hat, frill of her dress, wings, snowballs - oh and for good measure used some liquid pearls on her skirt. LOL
All the snowflakes were cut from white glitter paper and this really doesn't show up in the pic - but you get the idea!
Finished with a couple of sparkly gems.
Challenges -
Glitter n Sparkle - Add Glitter n Sparkle
Totally Gorjuss - Snows the way to go
Crafty Hands - Sparkle and Bling
Simply Create Too - Snow
Wags n Whiskers - Things with Wings
Happy Campers - Glitter It
OSAAT - Use a Digi
Gem of a Challenge - Winter Wonderland
Hope you've all had a great weekend! x

Cutie
Quick post from me to share a commissioned New Baby card.
And also to apologise if I don't get round to visiting you over the next 2 weeks - cos today is the day we leave this wet and windy weather and fly off to HOT, HOT, HOT!!!!
Will try and pop in from time to time, as am sure I'll be wanting a little bit of shade at some time in between the drinks with umbrellas in and sleeping on the hammock!!
This image just makes me smile every time I see it - I am in NO way maternal but there's something about the 'folds' in baby's skins isn't there - squidgy hands and feet!!
Coloured with promarkers and cut out with the Radiant Rectangles dies, layered onto blue cardstock before assembling onto spotty and striped background papers.
All the dies were cut from pearl white card and as usual cut some corners with what has to be my most used die set!
Lace and ribbon rose trim from my stash.
The sentiment was computer generated and I added a few pearls (as always!!) and followed the theme into the inside, using the same papers.
Challenges -
ABC - V for Very Cute
Clear it Out - Boys/Dies
Just Inspirational - Die Cuts
Oldie but a Goodie - Dies
Cutie Pie - Cute for Boys
Well that's me done - some posts for my DT scheduled whilst I'm away so fingers crossed Mr Blogger behaves and loads them for me!
See you in a couple of weeks! xx

Birthday - Crafty Card Makers DT
This week's over at Crafty Cardmakers Lin has chosen the theme of 'Birthday' to celebrate our challenge's Birthday!
So we would love for you to join in and share your birthday creations with us - some great prizes from our sponsors - pop over to the blog and check them out!
This is the last one of my recent commission for children's birthday cards.
I think this little ballerina from Mo Manning is such a cutie!
I printed her out and coloured her with promarkers then cut her out with a fancy nestie oval.
Her tutu was liberally covered with some pink stickles and all the papers were from my stash.
Added some corner die cuts and some pearls and ribbon before fixing the greeting.
The inside is decorated to match.
I can only apologise for the poor color quality of my pics recently - I haven't found somewhere yet in the new house that quite matches the light of the window of the previous office and think that my pics look a little 'washed out'!
Challenges -
2 Sisters - Make it Sparkle
Paper Creator - Think Pink
Word Play Saturday - Birthday
Sister Act - Anything Goes
Crafting Musketeers - Ribbons/Pearls
613 Avenue Create - Anything Goes
One Stitch at a Time - Use a Digi
Thanks for stopping in - know those of us here in the UK are busy enjoying this fab weather we're having - so hope the sun is shining for you too! x

First Birthday
The days have just disappeared in the last week so I have had no time to blog - in between running about like the proverbial headless chicken I have been trying to complete an order. This is the second card - for a little boy's first birthday.
The papers are from Summer Driggs and are called 'Easton' and I really like the bright sunshiney colours (just apt for the glorious weather we're having at the moment!!)
The image is a digi stamp from I think Digi Stamp Boutique, (I apologise if it is from somewhere else but honestly can't remember!) and I printed out a few times then layered it up to give it some dimension.
The addition of a few buttons, some bright orange thread and a teeny bit of stickles finished it!
Challenges -
One stop Craft - Anything Goes
HCTB - Use a Digi Stamp
Crafty Catz - Childs Play
Totally Papercrafts - Let's hear it for the Boys
Wags n Whiskers - Cute as a Button
Sweet Pea Stampers - For the Boys
Thanks for calling in - am off to finish another card then hopefully will get a couple of hours sitting enjoying the view outside!
Will catch up with you all later tonight! x

Scribbles!
The rain today gave me the perfect excuse to sit and start on a small order of cards -as if I needed an excuse after having being deprived for so long.....
Monty is the great grandson of one of the ladies at the Club -and having bought this Mo Manning image a while ago - simply because I liked it!- I thought I would use it. As I am not 'child friendly' at all, I hope it isn't 'too old' for a 3 year old!
I imported the image into a graphics program and then added what I hope are kiddie type letters for the greeting.
Printed out and coloured with Promarkers - and I confess I really enjoyed colouring this little man - his facial expression is priceless!
I mounted him onto some blue cardstock.
The backing papers are from the Nitwits 'By the Sea' and 'Land Ho' collections and the two small tabs secured with brads on the left were added as I thought it looked a bit 'plain'!
I don't possess a Cricut or similar machine, nor do I have any alphabet/number dies so the number was hand cut - (Not perfect but passable!)
The two 'crayons' are from the button stash and the inside is decorated with the same papers.
Challenges -
Red Carpet Studio - Going Digital
My Time to Craft - Spots and Stripes
Fashionista - Birthday
The Cupboard Trilogy - Birthday
Crafting Cafe - Here Come the Boys
Sweet Pea Stampers - For a Child
Gem of a Challenge - Male Birthday
Thanks for visiting - happy crafting! x

Blingy Big Birthday!
Had a busy couple of days but sat last night and finished a commissioned card.
Asked to make an easel card for a 30th Birthday, girly, pinky/bluey and blingy! Hope this fits the bill.
But what an absolute sod it was to photograph this morning - grey skies now after a couple of hours of sunshine - it was dry but very cold when we went for the walk earlier but now it's snowing!
And apart from anything else it does NOT make for taking decent pics -
But I think you'll get the general idea..
Pink Petticoat papers layered and stitched onto pink bazzil.
The card had to be 'modern' and this image from Mo seemed to be the most suitable I had to use.
'Party Girl' was coloured with a mix of my favourite pastels and promarkers and cut out with a Nellie Snellen Die. I layered more pink behind it and stitched together.
The lace was from my stash as was the scrummy pink velvet ribbon and I threaded a little extra piece through a blingy buckle then added all the crystals and a couple of sparkly pins.
Finished with a PC generated sentiment, a few more blingy bits and some die cut corners.
Challenges -
One Stitch at a Time - Use a Digi
Bronte & Bella's - Anything Goes with a Mo image
Pretty Little Ribbon Shop - Birthdays
Crafty Ribbons - Anything Goes with Ribbon
Corrosive Challenges - All that Glitters
2 Sisters - Pastels
613 Avenue Create - Anything Goes
Pan Pastel - Girly
Robyn's Fetish - Birthdays
Fashionista - Pink
Bunny Zoes - Girly
Whilst I've been typing this the snow has stopped and the sun has come out again! Weird weather...........
Stay warm and dry wherever you are! x
