Brusho Christmas

I sometimes look at my craft stash and think 'It's a long time since I used that'.... and so it is with my Brushos.
I don't use them enough - probably because I am not very good with them!

This card was inspired by a technique I saw a while ago and I stored it up to try it.... long forgotten but it just for some reason popped into my head when I saw the challenge at my Cas Mix Up's sister blog-  CAS Christmas this month was 'Christmas Tree'.

The technique is to simply 'ink' your stamp liberally with water, stamp onto watercolour card and sprinkle the Brushos on the wet impression, allowing each impression to dry before repeating.

I struggle so much with Brushos and also the 'move the colour around with a brush' thing that everyone I know seems to be so good at so there were several failed attempts before I managed to achieve something which I call 'passable'!
I was also limited as I only have a 12 colour starter pack so the colour options were not many - I used Emerald Green and Ultramarine.

Once dry I just dotted a white gel pen randomly before adding the sentiment.
As I said, this for me is a passable effort - I doubt if I am ever going to become expert.
I am struggling a little lately - my problems are compounded by the fact that no matter how much I try the face mask just makes me panic after 5 minutes. So for me now it's simply out in the car to somewhere flat so I can just walk - a visit to the shops are no longer an option. The weather here tho' has not been the best for walking which probably explains the 'restlessness' I am experiencing and my complete lack of any inspiration or motivation!

Stay safe wherever you are in the world. x

I love this look and have never heard of it. This is such a lovely card and gathering of trees. Thanks for sharing the technique as I struggle with Brusho's too. I can't wait to try this. I sympathize with you about the mask. I use oxygen when I go out (which is seldom) and when I put that mask on, I feel like I can't breathe. I'm glad you are able to walk outside and breathe the fresh air when it's nice out. We are social people and this is hard to be cut off.

These trees are super and you've controlled the Brusho very well because it can be very wayward stuff 😀. Had my first foray into a shop last week since lock-down and the mask experience wasn't good for me either, glasses steamed up, very claustrophobic so I just grabbed a pot of glue and made a quick escape so I can sympathise with your feelings about shopping. Best stick to walks in the fresh air and shopping online.

This looks wonderful, what a great technique, never heard of using brushos like this and can't wait to try it out! Love the colours and the way they've merged together.
Thank you for the inspiration.
So pleased you chose to play along at Sweet Stampin' this week.

I had not heard of this technique before Viv, but it one I think I'll be giving a go in the future, I love your card.

I'm sorry that you are struggling with the masks but I know just what you mean. Shopping once every two weeks was enough for me and I was ripping the mask off as I walked out of the suermarket. Then my mum had a fall, daily visits to the hospital and having to wear a mask throughout and now she's had to go into a home and I'm still having to wear a mask when I visit her. I know we are all being safe rather than sorry but I can't wait until they say we don't need to wear them anymore.

Take care

Sue xx

I think you are being way to touch on yourself as this looks amazing and with a real arty feel to it. Love how the colours blend. I am not good with brushos and to me you worked wonders here and so pleased to see you at Time Out x

Oh this is beautiful, what a pretty card, I love the effect you have with it. Its frightening having a mask on. I think a lot of people are really struggling with wearing them. I have ended up using paper ones rather than material as I was getting too panicked with my pretty fabric one one. Hazelx

I think this turned out pretty well, I love the colours you chose and the boldness of them. Your finished card is really very clever. so sorry to hear you are struggling with the whole mask thing. I am like you, I just go out walking xx

I love this card Viv, and like you, I have not used my Brusho's for some time. I will definitely try this!

A beautiful card Viv and love the bright Brusho colours and some great spattering and a nice large sentiment to finish. I agree with you Viv that wearing a mask is the most uncomfortable thing and I get so hot underneath it that I have to occasionally pull it discreetly away from my face to let the air flow a bit, and consequently I go in shops as briefly as possible, and only when I really have to. Hopefully the weather will cheer up for a bit before summer finally turns to autumn so at least you will be able to get out and about. I has actually been better here today, not much sun but definitely warmer. x

I think I'm going to try this technique. The ultramarine is my favorite color. I love this blue and green.

Oh, those mask. There are so many of us struggling with them. Hang in there. I think we're going to be wearing them for quite a while. I have a hard time breathing with them on. It is so nice to rip them off when you can. [Bunny]

Love your loose watercolour effect with the brushos, such an artsy looking Christmas card.

Wearing a mask is tough I do find the paper medical style ones easier to wear. Take care Christine

This is a beautiful card, Viv! You're too hard on yourself. Love the different shades of fabulous Brusho green and blue. The fine white gel pen snow is so pretty. The pandemic affected most of us, but things seems to be getting better day by day. I hope you stay safe and well, and regain motivation soon. :-) Thank you for sharing this beauty with us at CAS Christmas!

I don't do well with brushos either, but I am really inspired with your beautiful trees, and will have to try your technique, it is intriguing. Mine probably won't look half as good as yours. Thank you for sharing at CAS Christmas this technique and your super trees!

This is really a winner! Beautifully done and I love the loose water color look. I don't see how ANYONE could make anything that is prettier than what you have created! Did I tell you that I love this card!!

It looks to me like you've mastered this technique, Vic! I find it a hard technique and usually end up with a mess! I can definitely tell that these are evergreen trees and I love the brilliant green and blue!

I happen to love your "passable" attempt! Thanks for sharing it, and the technique, which I had not heard of.

As for the masking, restlessness, I think we are all there as it has been so long since normalcy! Hang in there, breathe deep, and we'll all make it through

You managed this technique perfectly! And I love the added white dots! A great card for our challenge! Thank you for joining us at TIME OUT!
P.s. I didn't like shopping before, but now I hate it and we don't have to wear facemasks for the shops here. But there are so many people not thinking straight and getting so much closser as the 1,5 meters that they should leave between us, that I like to ride my bike or go for a walk so much more!(and it keeps me in a better shape too :) )

You have done more than a passable job on your trees. Your much too hard on yourself. I have the starter pack of brushes in the shed somewhere. Tried them once and found way too messy so it's an outside job for me if
I get to use them again. I am ok with wearing a face mask as I made my own to fit me and hubby comfortably but am so with you on the feeling of restlessness. Can't settle to anything. It is one thing to choose not going anywhere but totally different now in this new normal life we are having to adapt to. If only we could roll back time!!

I’ve only used my brushos for making backgrounds, it’s an interesting idea to use it more like a paint or ink. Not sure I’m ready to give it a go though. This is not just passable, I love the finished result.

love this! It might even encourage me to get my brushos out again...I had a green accident last time, lol.

AMAZING card Viv! I love your gorgeous row trees done in Brushos. Very artsy and beautiful. The colours are so vibrant. Your work with Brushos is fabulous, my friend. You are too hard on yourself. Seriously, this is a work-of-art! We are all out of our routines with Covid and it does effect the mojo --- I'm the same. Stay safe! xx

What a stunning forest of green and blue pines, Viv - absolutely love it!! Seems you have the Brusho technique down pat!! I hear you about the masks - first time I went to the grocery store I almost had a melt-down right at the self check lane!! Practice at home and before you know it you won't even notice it!!

Gorgeous Brushos evergreen trees, Viv. I loved how you got a shadow effect on 3 of your trees and your vibrant colors. I have tried this technique, but could not get it right so I have ended up adding the Brushos powder to my craft mat and spritzing with water to reconstitute and then paint stamp with Brushos using paint brush. Can control the amount of water better, but actually I Love the artsy watercolor look you attained with your technique and letting each tree dry before stamping another tree...Awesome!

I rarely go out except for a haircut (every 2-3 months instead of 4 weeks), dr appt, dentist appt and flu shot...yep a total of 5 times since March:-) Denny picks up our groceries once a week and we order not only groceries, but everything else online...so thankful for Online...Blogging, You Tube Techniques, News at a minimum and phone calls. Lots of time for gardening and walking 4 miles everyday without a mask:-) I have found the Vida mask the best because it is easily adjustable and not too thick and can wear without glasses fogging up. But still very happy to take off when back in car:-) Sorry, did not mean to write a book:-) I agree...you are much too critical of your paper crafting art...Love your cards..always! Love and Hugs...Nancy
